Regarding participation in the Blessed Sacrament of Christ’s True Body and Blood: Because oneness at the altar presupposes oneness in faith and doctrine, we expect that all who commune at the Lord’s altar are members in good standing of an LCMS congregation. We ask that all who commune register on a communion card. All visitors should state their home LCMS congregation. First time visitors please speak to Pastor Dreyer. Individual cups for those desiring them are available as you approach the altar.

Summer Class Offered Since I found out that Adult Bible Class will end soon because of the change of times of worship services, I am considering to teach a formal class during Sunday evenings throughout most of the summer. Perhaps we will have a potluck of sorts and then have class. The class will be "How does the Lutheran faith survive in a growing secular society?" Lately I have heard many concerning issues that are confronting our members and former members of St. John regarding their Christian faith. If I do offer this course, I encourage the entire congregation to participate especially the younger members of our church including high school age. Please give me your thoughts regarding this idea and times in which to offer the class. Please refer to Pastor’s Blog at www.ologos.me. Pastor Dreyer
One of my four goals for this year is to have every member own their own hymnal and bring it to church and Bible Class. Since in the past so many years the Church went to putting the hymnal in the pews (which is a very good thing) the hymnal became a Sunday morning book and not, in good Lutheran tradition, part of the prayer life during the week. I encourage young and old to purchase their own hymnal and each Sunday I will explain a little bit about the rich material found in this new hymnal. The leather bound is a lighter hymnal but obviously costs a little more. I will be happy to take orders and pick up the hymnals for you. Just make the check out to St. John. Pr. Dreyer
CTS Sunday, April 19, at 4:00 pm, the Seminary Kantorei will hold its Easter Choral Vespers in Kramer Chapel at the Seminary.
Palm Sunday
The Holy Gospel + John 12:12-19
The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”
The Old Testament + Zechariah 9:9-12
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.”
The Epistle + Philippians 2:5-11
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
