We ask that all who commune register on a communion card. All visitors should state their home LCMS congregation. First time visitors please speak to Pastor Dreyer. Individual cups are available as you approach the altar for those desiring them.

THE FIRST READING  +   I Kings 19:9-21

THE EPISTLE  +   Galatians 5:1, 13-25

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.   For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.  But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.  For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

THE HOLY GOSPEL  +    Luke 9:51-62

A Samaritan Village Rejects Jesus

When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, "Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?" But he turned and rebuked them. And they went on to another village.  As they were going along the road, someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." To another he said, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father." And Jesus said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." Yet another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home." Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God."

 “Worship for Shut-Ins” -  July 2010

July 4, 2010 – Ephesians 6:13-20

" Whole Armor of God"

by Chaplain Douglas DeWitt, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hamler, OH

Armor of God is timeless.  No one can fight the devil alone, so prayer is also a part of a Christian's armor.  No matter what situations you may find yourself in, go to the Lord in prayer.

July 11, 2010 – Luke 10:25-37

" Being a Neighbor "

by Rev. Karl Frincke, Concordia Lutheran Church , Fort Wayne, IN

Having faith in Jesus Christ means doing something to demonstrate that faith.  God freely gives the gift of eternal life; we inherit it, and then we respond in faith and do something; be a neighbor to others.

July 18, 2010 – Luke 10:38-42

" One Thing Necessary"

by Rev. Daniel Brege, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Decatur, IN

We may get caught up in DOING all sorts of things for Jesus.  Indeed this often has value.  But doing things for Jesus does not take first place in God's priorities for us.  God wants us first and foremost to hear the Word of Christ, and in so doing RECEIVE what we desperately need---life, love, and salvation.

July 25, 2010 – Luke 11:1-13

“The Perfect Prayer”

by Rev. Paul E. Shoemaker

Jesus, in response to His disciples' request, teaches them to pray.  God responds to our prayers.  He hears us.  He knows our needs.  He graciously responds.
